Parenthood Through Egg Donation

The Egg Donation Process for Parents

Step 1
Initial Consultation & Planning

Your journey begins by partnering with a fertility clinic or agency to establish your medical goals and financial plan. During this stage, you will undergo a maternal health evaluation to ensure your body is prepared to carry a healthy pregnancy.

Step 2
Egg Donor Selection & Matching

When you have completed a consultation, you may start doing research, selecting, and matching on potential egg donors. Each egg donor profile consists of the donor’s traits, location, education, health and reproductive history, and family and genetic history. Once you select a candidate, the agency confirms her availability and facilitates the matching agreement.

Step 3
Donor Vetting & Legal Safeguards

The donor undergoes rigorous medical, genetic, and psychological screening to ensure she is a fit candidate for a successful retrieval. Simultaneously, reproductive attorneys draft a contract to clearly define your parental rights and fund an escrow account to manage compensation and insurance.

Step 4
Egg Retrieval & Embryo Creation

Once you and your surrogate have passed the necessary screenings, your surrogate is ready for the IVF cycle. For her cycle, she’ll receive her medication and begin monitoring at a clinic. When your surrogate is ready for the embryo transfer, she will return to your IVF clinic and undergo this procedure.

Step 5
Embryo Transfer & Pregnancy

The longest stage of your journey will be the time you strengthen your bond with your surrogate as she carries your baby throughout the pregnancy. Your coordinator will be checking in frequently to monitor and provide support, so you will also be supported during this time. Your surrogate will be released to her own OBGYN after the first trimester, and continue with ultrasound check-ins.

Step 6
Birth & Parenthood

Preparing for a new family member is an emotional journey, and finally holding your baby is an amazing feeling. When your child is released from the hospital, you will take your baby home and start this next chapter of your life! Traveling home with your new child can bring a whirlwind of emotions, and leaning into your support systems post-birth is just as important as during pregnancy.

Enjoy this new chapter of your life.
